Control over data for a transparent and efficient agricultural sector
Data is playing an increasingly important role in agriculture, yet farmers often have limited access to their own information. Data is scattered across various platforms, making it difficult to effectively use insights. This project focuses on the development of a farmer data space, where farmers remain in control of their data and can securely share it within the supply chain and with government bodies.
Background of Use Case 8
The Agricultural Information Hub as the central node for data exchange
The primary goal of the Dutch Data Line is to establish the Agricultural Information Hub—a platform where farmers can manage all their farm data in one place. This enables them to use data for:
More efficient operations and better decision-making
Improved collaboration and transparency within the supply chain
Accurate reporting to government authorities
To make this possible, the project is developing a robust information architecture aligned with the latest European developments in data spaces. This ensures that farmers not only gain access to their own data, but also retain full control over how and with whom it is shared.
"Farmers need to regain control over their own data so they can use it to run their operations more efficiently and sustainably."
Contribution to the ecosystem and the sector
From fragmented data to an integrated agricultural network
This project contributes to the digitalization of the agricultural sector by:
Developing a secure and fair architecture for data exchange
Validating the farmer data space through seven real-world pilot projects
Embedding the Agricultural Information Hub within the sector’s governance structure
Organizing collaboration around data integrity and data-driven practices
Identifying and addressing gaps in standards, governance, and cybersecurity
By placing farmers at the center of data flows, the project strengthens their position within the supply chain and promotes greater transparency in food production.
Deliverables Use Case 8
Data-driven agriculture for a sustainable future
Development of an information architecture for fair and secure data exchange
Validation of the farmer data space through seven real-world pilot projects
Governance integration of the Agricultural Information Hub within the sector
More transparent and efficient data flows between farmers, supply chain partners, and government bodies
Added value for Human Capital
New skills for a digital agricultural sector
The transition to data-driven agriculture requires new knowledge and skills among farmers and supply chain partners. This project supports that development by:
Providing training and knowledge sharing on data integrity and data-driven practices
Fostering collaboration between farmers, technology companies, and policymakers
