Reliable and continuous crop monitoring with fixed sensors
Monitoring crops plays a crucial role in precision agriculture, but existing methods such as satellites and drones have their limitations. This project focuses on the development of an innovative technology that uses fixed-position cameras to continuously collect crop data. This approach avoids challenges like cloud cover, sun-synchronicity, or the operational constraints of drones.
Background of Use Case 9
A new standard in vision-based crop monitoring
By using fixed camera setups, a high-quality, continuous data stream can be generated—directly applicable in simulations and calculations. This paves the way for new applications in crop and soil monitoring.
Initially, this technology is being tested on sports fields, where turf management plays a crucial role in preventing injuries and optimizing playing surfaces. In collaboration with the KNVB (Royal Dutch Football Association), the project explores how this innovative data collection method can contribute to improved grass management. The insights gained will then be translated into applications on agricultural demo farms to monitor and optimize specific crops.
"By using fixed camera setups, we can collect crop data without the limitations of satellites and drones."
